I am glad that Rollie only had to make 58 saves…

All I can say is:
HOLY CRAP!
I did not get to see the game, as I was coming home from work at around 9PM.  I had to listen to the Toronto broadcasters go crazy about the goaltending of Roloson, as well as the firepower that the Leafs displayed.
There was a five minute piece of the second where the Isles were just so powerful, thanks to Tamby, Moulson, and Bergie.  Once Gordon called the timeout, I thought the team would just stick to their game, keep their emotions, and move on.
Whoops.
Three goals in the second and third, and then the shooting gallery [...]

Well we’re moving on up…..

To the east side,
To that deluxe apartment in the sky.
We’re moving on up;
To the east(up the standings) side,
We’ve finally got a piece of the pie!
That theme song from the Jeffersons has some good meaning now…  A convincing win in Boston, coupled with the 1-0-2 record in the first three road games, hopefully gives the Isles a little more respect value in the league.  With a record of 8-6-7, they are at a position where no expert could have even thought they would be close to.
And of course, the best surprise of this season has to be the play of Matt Moulson.  [...]

Faster than a speeding H1N1 virus…..

AUTHOR: Gary Harding | IN: Game Recap, Islanders | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

It was caught in its infancy, so Kyle Okposo took a flight to Raleigh – surprising just about everyone.
Coach Gordon and the rest of the team were real glad he did.
Grabbing an errant pass, Okposo muscled the backchecking of Joni Pitkanen to get the puck through Manny Legace to give the Isles a 4-3 win.
It should not have been that close.  Three goals, and two by John Tavares gave the Isles a 3-0 lead, and it sounded like a disaster, according to Chuck Kaiton – the voice of the Hurricanes.
The second period, however, it was a different story.
Two goals in [...]

H1N1 – hits the Isles again

AUTHOR: Gary Harding | IN: Islanders | COMMENTS: None Yet

Now Okie is in a sequestered state.  Maybe he can watch the movie 12 Angry Men!
It should be a week off the ice for Okposo, as he recuperates from his Swine Flu.  Ah hee, who are we kidding, he did not want to go on this part of the road trip anyway.  He is waiting for the chance to go home next weekend to Minnesota.
Now Dougie is out 4-6 weeks from that crazy play on Friday at the Rock.  It is tough on the captain, but it gave Blake Comeau a chance the other night, and he seized the opportunity.
Now [...]

An offensive explosion

AUTHOR: Gary Harding | IN: Game Recap, Islanders | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

On a night where fans were lamenting on the loss of Radek Martinek, again… the Isles decided to bring the offensive into a new gear, by scoring six against Atlanta last night.
21 shots in period 1 – a record this season.
3 goals in period 1 – tying a season record
6 goals in a game – a record this season
13 players on the score sheet
This was a complete contrast from the team that lost two disappointing games this week in Buffalo and New Jersey.  As the team prepares for a seven game road swing over the next two weeks, this game [...]

Thank God I don’t play the lottery….

I got both goalies wrong for tonight.  Yann Danis gets the start against his old mates, according to Katie Strang at Newsday.  Marty Biron will get his second straight, as it seems that Roloson has better performances against the Thrashers.

Take a piece of the Rock tonight!

AUTHOR: Gary Harding | IN: Islanders | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Home cooking is not been the option for the Devils this season.  2-4 to be exact.  Good thing the Isles are the road team tonight.  On the flip, the Devs are 7-0 as the visiting team.  Quite interesting, to say the least.
The Isles at 5-5-5 are looking to get back over the 500 mark.  With this game tonight, and a home match against Atlanta, the Isles then head for a big road trip that will keep them away from Nassau until the day before Thanksgiving.  A litmus test, to say the least.
What do the Isles need to do.  Pepper Brodeur.  [...]

Too many wings at pregame meal?

AUTHOR: Gary Harding | IN: Game Recap, Islanders | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

There is a place called “Duffs” on Millersport in Cheektowaga.  It is the REAL place for wings.  Forget about the Anchor Bar.  That place is such a tourist trap – and the wings are just not as good.  My suggestion, if you like them REAL HOT, like I do, you have to get the hottest level.  You will be glad you did.  Actually, your insides will hate you for at least 72 hours.
Anyway – think the Isles went there for pregame meal?  They just did not look like the guys that were so dominant over the last week.  Especially in [...]
