Schremp gives the Isles a Cocktail finish

AUTHOR: Gary Harding | IN: Game Recap, Islanders | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

He has suck great stick handling skills – just like a certain player that was an Islander that also came from the Syracuse area.
Just a great move to finish a ho-hum game.  But it is two points that they really need.
Rollie was OUTSTANDING!  I like how Bailey is playing, but not getting rewarded.  Okie is just Okie, and I think he deserves to be in Vancouver in February.
Tambellini did not embarass himself.
It was not a game worthy of a lot of praise, but will take the yeoman efforts, and take the two points and head North to Ottawa!
Happy New Year!

Another win at MSG

I wouldn’t necessarily call it “pretty” or “textbook” by any means, but for the third time this season, the Isles beat their cross-town rivals, the New York Rangers, in their building again. It was a 3-2 victory in overtime on a hard wrist shot from Kyle Okposo that beat Henrik Lundqvist and clanged off the post and in with under a minute left in the extra stanza..
The Isles scored the first 2 goals of the game with Frans Nielsen in the first and a shorthanded tally in the second by Blake Comeau after some fantastic, hard work from Kyle [...]

An early Christmas present

AUTHOR: John Panarese | IN: Game Recap, Islanders | COMMENTS: None Yet

I had to read and hear about this game, unfortunately. An unexpected and unwelcome trip the the emergency for chest discomfort and such made me unable to catch anything last night. I don’t recommend such a diversion for anyone.
Nevertheless, Hunter scores again, JT breaks his 5 game goalless streak and Comeau gets the 3rd goal awarded to him after being pulled down on his way in alone on the Leaf’s empty net late in period 3. Blake also, from what I’ve read, made a great pass to set up Tavares’s goal.
Other than that, I was told the [...]

Pray the Gods smile on the Isles

A nice Christmas present for the boys would be a well played win against the Loafs.
Other presents would be:
1.  JT and Okie getting goals (especially in 5 on 5 situations)
2.  A PK that stops the opponents.
3.  The defense (especially #’s 8 and 32) not getting so many minuses.
4.  The PP clicking, and getting traffic to the net.
Not asking for much, but that is a start.
Hope to be there by game time – Have a Hockey Day folks!

Lackluster 3rd crashes Isles

AUTHOR: Gary Harding | IN: Game Recap, Islanders | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

The skates did not seem to be wearing out; the effort just seemed to be less for me than it was in the prior two periods.  Losing the battles in the corners, not making solid passes – the team just did not seem to be there in the third stanza.
The power play in a word, anemic!
10 of the last 17 times that the Isles have been on the kill, the opponent has scored.  That is a lousy statistic.
Kudos to Thompson for getting his first, and Hunter for getting off the schneid.  There are guys that are playing hard, and guys [...]

Who was the home team?

AUTHOR: John Panarese | IN: Game Recap, Islanders | COMMENTS: None Yet

Well, another game the Isles played well and out shot their opponents, but still ended up losing. In this case, it was a 3-0 defeat. This seems to have become a repeated theme, as it was a bit like the Ranger game from Thursday. Could Moulson have been robbed any more times by Halak? Could Kyle Okposo have any harder luck scoring a goal? Could the Isles catch Any breaks at all? And was that game played north of the boarder or on Nassau Long Island?
Without a doubt, and to give credit where it [...]

Ooooooh Boy

AUTHOR: Gary Harding | IN: Game Recap, Islanders | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

What a difference a day makes…. 24 little hours.
The message from Torts came through loud and clear.  The goalie did his job.  The power play did theirs.  5-2 win for the visitors.  All three games in this series goes to the white jerseys instead of the blue.
Interesting, aint it?
Kudos to Lundqvist, who played like the “king” that the Ranger fans call him.  I think in 5 on 5 play, the teams were even.  The special teams was the difference, and getting three PP goals, and seeing a PK’er miss the widest net in history, will be the reason why the [...]

Oooooooh baby!

AUTHOR: Gary Harding | IN: Game Recap, Islanders | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

With respect to John Davidson – It was the Islanders who came out the happier team.  To me – they just basically wanted this game more than the Rangers did.
As Al Trautwig said – it was a CONVINCING win for the Islanders.
I am feeling quite good.
Every player on this team, was excellent – I was very impressed with McDonald on defense.  He stepped in for Gervais (who in my mind was the worst player on this team), and was impressive.  Hillen was outstanding, and seems to improve his game every night.  Nate Thompson sacrificing his body in the last seconds [...]
