Hey - by you a Molson (Moulson) after the game?
Matt Moulson’s dad, Steve, woke him up at 6:30AM – as dad wanted to check on the future’s market. Needless to say, Matt was not to happy.
Well – all is forgiven now.
Three goals, in three different kind of situations (Slapper from between the circles, breakaway deke, and a deflection in front of the net), got his first NHL Hat trick in the books, and a 4-1 victory over a previous blue-hot Atlanta Thrashers squad, who had been the best in the NHL in third period activity.
The Isles shut them down and probably played their BEST game of the season, according to the coach.
I was just very impressed with the way the forwards came back in certain situations when the D tried to pinch in. Credit BIG TIME to #51, Frans Nielsen, who was just brilliant coming back after getting hurt in NJ the other day.
Trent Hunter got over not being on the scoresheet on Saturday by getting two helpers. JT got the empty netter.
Great effort by the boys, and I hear the dads took to Atlanta quite well. Today, they are in Tampa – preparing for their Saturday night special against the Bolts, who are in Jersey tonight, and have to fly back to Florida for the game. The Isles will be rested and raring to go, as the Bolts do not get into their beds until about 3AM or so. Will that be an advantage? Hope so.
Have a hockey day folks!

It was definitely one of the best played games the Isles have had this year in regard to consistent effort and positional play. Unfortunately, I missed chunks of the game because of untimely phone calls, but I followed as best as I could. The Thrashers had won 4 in a row and are among the NHL leading teams in goals for per game. Also, they were averaging over 35 shots a game. The Isles kept them off the board in the third, which, as G said, was their biggest period, and I believe the shots for both teams were 27 a piece. Great job, boys!
On a side note, I’ll buy Moulson whatever he likes. I picked him up for my fantasy hockey team a week ago, and having just picked up Kyle Okposo too, well, thanks guys for the 3 goals and 2 assist total!
