What else is new. Why can this team can not beat this Flyer group?
This team was not playing a horrible game. 5 on 5 – they looked well. As in the game the other night with Carolina. What is the problem?
According to the MSG broadcast, there were two issues that the Isles needed to solve:
Keep the speed up (which they did)
Not to take silly penalties (which they did too…)
Nathan Gillies was brought up to be an enforcer role – but only played 3:16 in this game. Due to the tight nature of the score of the game – there really [...]

OK, it’s 3 losses in a row now. Last night, it was a 4-1 defeat at the hands of the Carolina Hurricanes. Granted that the Canes have been playing much better of late, but the Islanders should have shown a lot more in their effort last night. They were actually losing 3-0 with about 5 minutes left in the game before Matt Moulson got them on the scoreboard with his 20th goal of the season. What few chances the Isles had prior to that were either squandered or Ward shut the door for the Canes.
So, the [...]

Good news – the Isles stopped Ovie’s 9 game point scoring streak, keeping him off the sheet, despite have 10 shots on net. That is good news, and a good job by the boys.
Bad News – Alex Semin and the rest of his mates, including former Isles D-man John Erskine (OISK!), slapped the Isles around and got 7 goals on the Rollie/DP combo for the 7-2 win last night.
Worse News – Jack Hillen, who left a great deal of blood on the Coliseum ice after getting an Ovie slapper to the face, is still in the hospital after having surgery [...]

The last time we see the Caps this season (unless it is in the playoffs). Each of the three games that have preceeded it have been great matches that have all needed extra time (or shootouts) to settle the score; with the last one being an 11 round nail-biter.
I am expecting nothing but the same tonight. Each Cap game, the Isles came out playing hard and strong. This shoujld be no different. Having Andy Sutton return from his 2 game hiatus should be a welcome addition. Dustin Kohn played admirably in his first 2 NHL contests, and have nothing to [...]

It has struck me, as it has for many Islander fans, just how impressive a young man Kyle Okposo has become. It is surely a hit and miss proposition when it comes to first round draft picks and their potential impact for a team, but the first round pick in 2007, who went 9th overall, is truly emerging as a well-rounded and true leader for the New York Islanders.
To me, there was always something about the guy as far back as when he left college in Minnesota to play [...]

OK, a bad play on words, but the question is not too far off the mark. The Islanders decided to only play 20 minutes of last night’s game against the New Jersey Devils, losing 4-2 when it was all over. Rick DiPietro certainly did not play badly and he didn’t deserve to end up with the loss.
After being outplayed in the first by the Devils and trailing 1-0 on a Jamie Langenbrunner goal, Colin White took a major penalty in the second by boarding Sean Bergenheim, which, by the way, should result in a 2 game suspension [...]

It wasn’t pretty nor the best game for the Isles, but in the end, they managed, again, to earn the 2 points in the shoot out, thanks to Rob Schremp and Matt Moulson. Unfortunately, I was not in a situation in which I could catch a great deal of the game, so I will only summarize what I’ve read and was told.
Although the Islanders ended up with a 36-34 advantage in shots over the Panthers, they were badly out played in the first period. Roloson came up big several times, and Florida finally broke through in the second [...]

You can’t win them all. A loss was bound to occur, despite how good the Isles have been playing. Additionally, well, this is far from the final product, and the ups and downs are going to be a part of Islander country for some time to come. On top of that, it was a 6-4 loss to the Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins, and it was far from a “bad game” for the Isles.
The isles fell behind 1-0 in the first period and trailed 3-0 and 4-1 at different points in the second period. Andy Sutton [...]
