I don’t have much to say about the trade of Trent Hunter to the Devils for Brian Rolston. The Isles got to the floor for the salary cap and the Devils got maneuvering room to enable them to sign Zach Parise for a 1 year, 6 million dollar contract.
There a lot of rumors claiming that this move by the Islanders is a prelude to something bigger. At least, if you are to believe what you read out there, this is what is being suggested. No names or possible details have been floated with any believability to my thinking, so it remains to be seen what will happen. At this point, considering how low key the off season has been for the Isles and with the new arena deal going to vote on Monday, a major deal of some kind does make a lot of sense. If the Islanders truly want to make a serious run at the playoffs this season, they are going to have to go outside to bring a major element to the table. The development, as far as I am concerned, has been going extremely well, but I am of the mind that a little “help” might be in order to really kick things into gear. I have no idea who this might be, who the Islanders could possibly trade, or what particular position will benefit, but the Islanders do have a pretty deep prospect pool and a lot of room under the salary cap to play with.
So, it’s a matter of staying tune and waiting. I have a feeling that Garth is not going to disappoint. Something tells me that the rte will be some kind of major move made by the Islanders long before training camp. There has simply been enough rumbling and chatter to lead me to believe this to be the case.
I am not a Nassau County resident, and, thus, cannot vote on Monday. However, for those of you who have friends and family or co-workers who can vote who might be on the fence or who might be buying into a lot of the negative nonsense being castigated out there, there was a very nice article on Lighthouse hockey that is a MUST read. Please forward the link to anyone you know who can vote on Monday.
for the article.
Remember, folks. Get out there and vote if you can. Do not assume anything is a given. Vote, Yes, and stand by your Islanders!
