The Islanders agreed to a one year contract with RFA Blake Comeau. He will be making 2.5 million for the season, which is a pretty nice raise over the $800000 he made last season.
His 24 goals season was a nice “break out” for him, and I’m glad they got the deal done before it reached an arbitration hearing, which was scheduled, I believe, for tomorrow. He is certainly a guy I personally believe is a part of the team’s future. I also think that he is only going to get better with confidence and experience. An interesting piece of news is the Isles are also bringing back John Sim. He signed a one year, two-way deal with the team.
This was something that I was not expecting. He ended up being released by the team last season, and it will be interesting to see what kind of role he will play this season. He, in my opinion, is not capable of taking on the role of a Zenon Konopka.
However, Simmer plays the irritant role quite well, and I always found it entertaining when he gets under the skin of opposing players. He also draws his share of penalties, so I assume he will be on a fourth line of some making.
