30 NHL Previews in 30 Days – Detroit Red Wings

Detroit is in the midst of some changes.  Guys have retired, and their farm system always seems to find diamonds in the rough.

Monica McAlister from Octopus Thrower, has the next preview – the Detroit Red Wings for our 30 days of previews.

Here is an excerpt:

They say defense wins championships.

They say your last line of defense is your goaltender.

So I guess it should come as no surprise that the Red Wings are building from the backend out…

Goaltending

Earlier this summer long time Red Wings net minder Chris Osgood made his retirement from the NHL official. After injury set backs and a young Jimmy Howard pushing and keeping that number one spot in the Red Wings crease it was time. Osgood may not be throwing on his number 30 but he is still taking to the ice as an assistant goaltending coach. Osgood will be working with the goaltenders in the Red Wings farm system in Grand Rapids with the Griffins (AHL) and in Toledo with the Walleye (ECHL).

Next up is Edmonton.  This should be an interesting preview – lots of changes there.

Remember – the Islander preview will go up on Sunday the 18th.
