Isles vs Caps - Period 1

20:00 – observation – Isles were not totally outplayed, but the Caps took advantage of their opportunities.  Isles need to get more tenacious.  Crowd yelling for Al Montoya – will the coach listen?  Tune into the second period to find out…

18:41 – Ovie was buzzing, and took a blistering shot from between the circles his 6th of the season – CAPS 2 – ISLES 0

18:19 – 4 on 4 for 2 minutes and Isles go back down for another 39 seconds.

17:40 – Isles need to make a statement – but Joel Ward took down Mark Streit – basically evening up the play for the remainder of the period.

15:57- Parenteau took Hamrlik into the boards – and Hamrlik looked a little weary.  Ovechkin came in and gave Parenteau a little whack – sending him to the sin bin as well.  Parenteau gets 5 for boarding and Ovechkin 2 for roughing.  Islander fans not happy, but the hit was definitely not good.  The fact that Hamrlik walked away is a sign that PA may not get as much discipline had the injury been more serious.

14:33 – Grabner made a 55 foot pass right to the stick of JT in front of Vokoun.  Great save.  Shots are 10-10 right now.

14:21 – Mark Eaton – meet your jockstrap.  Ovie just handed it to you, and it was a beautiful move.  Good thing for Ricky that he made the save.

13:57 – Oview has such a great snap shot.  The acceleration off the stick, as well as the torque that comes off #8’s stick is amazing.

11:11 – First penalty of the game – as Semin took down Frans Nielsen – question is how the power play will make out tonight?

10:20 – after the goal – Washington has dicated the play.  Isles need to get angry and take over.  Matt Martin is doing what he can – but can not be the folcal point.

6:45 – Consensus in the press box – Joel Ward is the perfect pickup for the Caps.  A good grinder who can scoreyou a goal or two.  I am sure that the Preds miss his presence.

5:24 – Joel Ward does a sping moves and scores a goal off of Marty Reasoner’s stick.  1-0 CAPS

3:59 – so far – Isles outchancing the Caps – winning the battles in the corners, and showing good puck possession.  Need to sustain the pressure and keep the Caps in their own end of the ice.

1:38 – well – at least Ricky stopped the first shot tonight – the streak of two is stopped.  Will better things come to the Isles???

1:00 – Grabner with JT and Moulson in front.  Let’s see what the Gremlin does foer thhis line.

0:00 – Nielsen – Rolson and Parenteau is the front line with Staios and Streit on the Blue with Dp in net.  Vokoun is in the nets for the Caps.
