As Christmas Day of the NHL season is here today, these are the questions we all want to know in Islander country?
1. Will Garth Snow make a big splash? I honestly do not think so…. The main players in their team that need to remain here, seem to be doing so.
- PA Parenteau – this would obviously be a player that is on major radars throughout the NHL. He is a UFA at the end of the season, and we know that Snow and PA’s agent were talking. They said that talks were ending for now, as PA wants to be more concerned with his play, as where he may or may not go. He is so liked on this team, and is so appreciative to the Islanders for the chance he got. He is critical to future success here, and I just don’t see him going.
2. Status on Evgeni Nabokov – The goaltender is having his agent Don Meehan talking to Garth Snow on the possibility of making a contract for him to stay on the Island. He has adjusted to Long Island quite well, and has become a part of the group, and obviously has been the mainstay of the Islanders resurgence over the last 30 games. He likes it here, and really feels like he is a part of the group. Can he still be loaded? Yes – but I think the Isles management know what they really have in him, and can be a vital component for this year and next as well.
3. Will a D-man move? I honestly think so. If it were my guess, I would say Mark Eaton. He is a veteran on the blue line, and has experience in the playoff push. He can provide a strong team with about 14-18 minutes a night. Milan Jurcina can also be a possibility. Although he is the lowest plus-minus in the league, his size and strength can help a good team. With the occasional offensive push he can make, that can help a team.
