Fansided mock NHL draft..... The New York Islanders Select.....

Greetings from Islander Country.  As was done last year, the folks at Fansided are holding our annual Mock NHL draft.  NHL Fansided site is going to select a pick for their respective team. Oil On Whyte  selected Neil Yakupov for the Edmonton Oilers.  In the second slot is Fire That Cannon and the Columbus Blue Jackets select Mikhail Grigorenko.  A Winning Habit the Montreal Canadiens site, selected Alex Glachenyuk.

The New York Islanders are on the clock……

Hmmmm – what would Garth Snow do?

Well – of course, this mock draft assumes that the 30 teams are not trading picks or positions, so in this position, the teams would hopefully pick the best possible player available.

I will tell you that I am going to do something out of the ordinary.  I am going to select a North American  with this pick.

The New York Islanders select:

From the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League, Ryan Murray.

Murray will be the first defensemen to be selected in the real draft, in my opinion, and will be for me, regardless of who was picked in front.

A great puckhandler, Murray is already being compared to Scott Niedermayer.  The six foot one, 200 pound Canadian, scored nine goals and thirty-one points this season with only thirty-one penalty minutes.

The following is info from Hockey’s Future for this season for Mr. Murray:

Murray was named a team captain for the Silvertips as an 18-year-old and also represented Canada at the 2012 U20 World Junior Championship. Limited at the beginning of the season due to an ankle injury, he skated in 46 regular season games. Murray finished with an even plus-minus and scored 9 goals with 22 assists and 31 PMs on an Everett team that won just 22 games. Murray was the Everett’s leading scorer in the four-game playoff series with Tri-City, scoring 3 goals, including a short-handed tally, and adding 2 assists while finishing minus-2. He skated in all six games during Canada’s bronze medal run at the U20 WJC and had 3 assists. Following the season he was one of two junior players invited to the camp for Team Canada prior to the 2012 IIHF World Championship. Murray was ranked 2nd among North American skaters in the final Central Scouting rankings prior to the 2012 NHL Draft.

Here is a video from You Tube on Murray:
