Brent Thompson named assistant for Isles ? ?

According to Andy Strickland at www.truehockey.com, Brent Thompson will be named an assistant coach on the Island for the ’12-’13 campaign. (Note: This has not been confirmed with the team yet).

According go Strickland:

“Former Peoria assistant coach and Alaska Head Coach Brent Thompson has been hired by the Islanders as an assistant. Good hockey man with a strong future”.

(Gotta give credit to Christian at www.islandershockeyblog.com for finding the scoop and notifying via Twitter).

Given Thompson’s success with the Sound Tigers last season, this really comes as no surprise. In fact, I think most who follow team closely expected this sooner rather than later, especially comsidering the team let Chynoweth and Allen loose.

Does this affect Cappy at all? I get the feeling that between Dougie Weight, and now Brent Thompson’s arrival, that the writing is on the wall for Capuano. Most hockey insiders, and his players, have high regard for Thompson. He coached Alaska to the ECHL championship a couple years ago. Guy is apparently a winner.

Congrats to Coach Thompson for his promotion and the Isles for making this decision sooner rather than later.
