At least Christian Erhoff did not influence Brad Boyes’ position…

Brad Boyes signs a one year, one million dollar deal with the Islanders this afternoon.  The 30 year old Missisauga, ON native, scored 43 nd 33 goals for the St. Louis Blues in the 2007-08 and 08-09 seasons respectively.  He then went to the Buffalo Sabres and only scored 13 goals in his two seasons in Western New York.

Experts are saying that they feel that he has something left in the tank, and this contract will be a chance to prove himself to get another big deal before his career ends.

Personally – I think this is an interesting deal.  A chance that Garth is taking that a move to the Island will improve his career.  With recent signings (Moulson, Grabner, Parenteau), who knows what will happen.

The second move seee the Islanders grabbing another defenseman in the name of Matt Carkner.  The 32 year old defenseman played his two full NHL seasons with the Ottawa Senators.  The 6’2″, 240lb right hand shooter, is strong, and not afraid to put up the dukes when needed.  He will be the enforcer the team will look to.  Michael Haley is looking for a one-way deal, that the Islanders can not lock up.

He may not be a Potvin, or Lidstrom, but he is a stopper, that can get the job done, and be strong enough to give the forwards more time and space for them to get scoring chances.  This will allow the younger players the opportunity to develop a full year in the AHL.

If more moves come up – we will get them to you.
