Isles Year in Review – Juice #27

Soooo, the Islanders web team works quick.  As I went to the site to find some of Milan’s sterling stats for this here little write up, I found him to be GONE,   along with all the other Islander UFA’s beginning on 7/1/2012.  Gone forever?  Good question.  I personally think we’ve seen the last of Milan Jurcina round these parts.  Who will replace him?!?!?!  (Gasp).

Remember when Garth extended Jurcina for an extra year towards  the end of ’10-’11 season?  Me too, it seemed like a longggggggg time ago.  And honestly, I was all for it.

First thought:  Holy crap he was a minus-34 last season.  As our year in review of the Isles roster continues, I wonder . . . . did anyone have a plus rating  last season other than Hammer?

Anyhow.   Here’s how it typically goes for Jucina:  ‘X’ amount games played.  New injury or recurring injury (usually groin) and out for a stretch.  Comes back.  He plays.  Team wins.  I usually then say, “Oh, Milan can be a difference maker /good luck charm”.  Repeat.

I’d love to throw a bunch of stats and analysis at ya and give ya a great breakdown on Milan Jurcina but it’s a national holiday, summer’s just underway, and we’re mid-free agent frenzy.  Probably everyone is on the Twitter anyway waiting and wondering when Zach Parise will re-sign with the Devils (because that is what is going to happen) and not too worried about Milan anyway!

I’ll sum it up for you pretty easily.  He stunk.  And although he was a little more reliable this year than the previous (65 games played), that minus-34 is glaring.  Mentally, I consistently questioned his commitment.  Because . . . well, listen . . . If I’m 6’4″ and 25o and have nothing really else going for me as a defenceman . . . I’m clearing people OUT.  I was always waiting for Milan to take the next step.  But it never happened.

He’ll end up somewhere this summer.  I have a feeling he heads over to Europe personally, but someone will sign him . . . because he’s 6’4″ 250.

Happy 4th of July everyone.  236 years ago our forefathers said, “Nope, not gonna take it anymore.”  Now we cook out, drink beer, watch stuff blow up, and hang out with friends and family.  Pretty awesome country if you ask me.
