Horton is a big bruising winger, the kind that Islanders fans have craved for a long time to play alongside John Tavares.
He also has some offensive upside as evidenced by his 402 points in 591 career games spanning time spent with the woeful Florida Panthers and currently the Stanley Cup finalists Boston Bruins.
In the 2013 playoffs he has been one of the Bruins best players among the forwards and has really taken the pressure off the struggles of Tyler Seguin. 18 points in 19 games adds to his playoff totals of 35 points in 40 games, including 15 goals.
Talent, size, snarl and playoff performance. All good. Where it goes downhill for Horton is health. It certainly has been a tale of two stories in this department as overall, playing 84% of your games over a 9 year career seems all fine and well on the surface. But when he does get injured, it usually happens in a major way causing plenty of games to be missed. Horton has gone 4 seasons only missing 7 games combined but over the residual 5 has missed 106. See what I mean?
