The New York Islanders are north of the border tonight as they take on the Toronto maple leafs at the Air Canada Centre.
Tonight’s game is the start of a three game road trip, with Pittsburgh and Philadelphia following on Friday and Saturday. Two of three games coming against divisional opponents makes this another key stretch of games. The Islanders can truly help their cause with a couple of wins and take as many points as they can get before returning home next Wednesday.
Most notably, a new goalie tandem will be traveling with the team. Anders Nilsson was called up from the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Monday, now making Kevin Poulin the number one goaltender for the Isles. Nilsson’s numbers haven’t been great in the AHL, but they can also only tell part of the story. What he does in the NHL is what truly matters, and his size at 6’5″ could work in his benefit. We’ll have to wait and see how it all unfolds in the coming weeks.
