Islanders

Eric Bolte-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Islanders have returned home from a grueling and non-productive Western coast road trip where they claimed 2 out of a possible 10 points. They will take on the Montreal Canadiens tonight at the Nassau Coliseum beginning at 7pm. With the expected weather conditions, if you are heading out, please take care and be safe traveling.

The good news is that with the recent failures of the Metropolitan division along with the now infamous ‘injury ninja’ reeking his own havoc on teams up and down the Eastern conference, the Islanders find themselves still only 10 points out of playoff position.

Last season in the abbreviated schedule, New York through their first 21 games had a 3.40 goals against average before proceeding to post a 2.41 mark in the final 27 games in their frantic race to the playoffs.

There is little doubt the skill and talent to go on a similar run exists within this years team but the question remains, is head coach Jack Capuano able to bring it out of them again? Rumors continue to swirl like a howling winter’s wind about Peter Laviolette, who has been spotted around Madison Square Garden the other night watching the New York Rangers game. Some say scouting for team USA, others assuming something totally different.

Either way, the Islanders are running out of time to figure out their inequities and right the ship before its too late.

Don’t forget, you have until noon to vote in our Islanders survivor home edition before the results are summarized and published later on today. Please see the top link in the next section to cast your vote for each player of the current roster and whether you think they should stay on the Island or be voted off.

Across The Sound

The Sound Tigers allowed 4 third period goals in losing to Albany yesterday, 6-1. Mike Halmo scored the only goal for the baby Islanders, who clearly miss the offensive production of Ryan Strome, now with the big club. It’s going to be real interesting to see how Anders Lee continues his development without his top pivot.

The official game recap can be found right here at the official site.  Next up is a game this evening at home against the Providence Bruins, 7pm faceoff at Webster Bank Arena.
