The New York Islanders could not continue their winning streak on Saturday night, again falling to their nemesis, the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 at Nassau Coliseum.

They were done in by great goaltending and a one minute lapse in defensive coverage that allowed the Hurricanes to pot two second period goals and break a 1-1 deadlock after captain John Tavares had tied the game with a nifty move in the low slot.

It does not take away from the fact that the Islanders have been playing much better as of late and with the playoffs seemingly a pipe dream, all fans want to see is continued effort and results the rest of the way forward for the club that has now picked up 14 of their last 24 points.

With the Dallas Stars coming in for a visit on Monday evening, maybe we see Kevin Poulin and Matt Donovan inserted as head coach Jack Capuano, up to now, did now want to mess with a lineup that produced big wins over the Wild, Bruins and Blackhawks.

Across The Sound

Bridgeport lost their rematch with the Admirals last night, falling 3-2 in a shootout. Ever since Ryan Strome was called up to the big club, Scott Pellerin has had trouble finding offense. The recap can be found right here at the official site.

The Sound Tigers return to action next Friday in Manchester to face the Monarchs before returning home to face the Portland Pirates the following night. They’ll wrap up the weekend with another home game Sunday when they take on the Hartford Wolf Pack. (c/o Soundtigers.com)
