It was a wild finish in Uniondale yesterday, but the Islanders were able to cap off yet another come-from-behind victory with two points before heading to Madison Square Garden to take on the New York Rangers tonight.
Tonight’s game against the Rangers is the last meeting between the two teams until they faceoff at Yankee Stadium next Wednesday for the Coors Light Stadium Series. Not only will the Isles want to head into the Bronx up in the season series against their cross-town rivals, but they’ll need any points they can get against Metropolitan Division teams. While the Islanders are currently only five points out of a wildcard spot, it’s important to remember three teams with 52 points have games in hand: Columbus Blue Jackets (3), Detroit Red Wings (2), and Washington Capitals (2).
As news of Lubomir Visnovsky continues to look promising, and Travis Hamonic‘s health situation where it is, the upcoming Olympic break may look much more like a blessing than a curse in a couple of weeks. It may be just what the doctor ordered and the Isles can use the time to get core members of the team (hopefully) back to full health.
