The first transactions post-Olympic break were announced late Monday afternoon as Ryan Strome, Anders Lee, and first time call up Mike Halmo will join the team Tuesday.
The top line for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers will fill in for a very depleted New York Islanders squad. With John Tavares, Frans Nielsen, and Matt Martin, the top three scorers for the Islanders AHL affiliate will get a shot at showcasing their skills during the final stretch of the season. Although the Isles are just about mathematically out of playoff contention, there is a silver lining in having young stars get some time with the big club. With a couple players on the rumored trading block, the team will get a look at potential candidates to fill the void in next years squad.
There are still a couple days between now and the first Islanders game since the break, which will give the youngsters ample time to get acquainted with the team. Who knows if a trade will happen between now and Thursday’s game, but for the time being, it’ll be an interesting eight days across the entire League.
