Islanders MidSeason Grades – Professor Gary’s Review
At this time – It is my pleasure to give you all my grades at the mid-point of the Islanders 2011-2012 season. I will give each player a two sentence review, and then the grade. Of course, this is MY opinion. Yours can obviously be different, and I would love to hear from you about it.
Ken Morrow – Islanders Hall of Fame induction 12/31/2011
In 1980, there was a lot of crazy things going on in the world. There was the gas shortages, the hours of waiting to get a few gallons of petrol. There was the Iran hostage crisis. Also – there was the Cold War in full swing. Both in the military, and on the ice, the U.S. and the Soviets were in showdowns, with fingers on the trigger, so to speak. But unlike the battle between Jimmy Carter and Leonoid Brezhnev, the battle in hockey was a severe one-sided situation. The Russians were the best in the world; destroying the NHL [...]
What does the average hockey fan think of this?
I got this video from a friend in England, it happened during a match between the Sheffield Steelers and the Belfast Giants. Here is the scoop on the play: Steelers losing 1-0 to Giants with 43 seconds left , steelers score on a after a possible hand pass behind the net. Into o/t and steelers attack into the zone with a pass which looks offside although extensive replays are inconclusive , the clip shows from a second after the winning goal. The referee was struck and injured slightly and called a major penalty on the giants player , this was [...]
Help Wanted: Writer for Eyes On Isles
As we are trying to provide more and more information and articles on the Islanders, Eyes On Isles, is looking to expand and get more folks to come on board and give them the opportunity to write about their favorite hockey team. There are no pre-requisites. All I ask, is that you forward me a short article (your topic – about 300-500 words) to me to check out. Please send an e-mail to me (gharding14@gmail.com), and I would be happy to consider your request…. Thanks, and Happy Holidays! Gary
Proposed Realignment, My Thoughts and Opinions
The NHL Board of Governors approved a plan to realign the league next season. Obviously, with the Atlanta franchise moving to Winnipeg and playing in the South-East division, this was going to be necessary. Thus, the league has taken steps to try to align the league in a way that makes sense. With teams like the Detroit Redwings and Columbus Blue Jackets unhappy about having to play so many western teams and making it difficult on the fan base to watch the games, as well as the travel on the team itself, it was also inevitable that such issues would [...]
Yes – I think Matt Moulson needs a 10 gallon Hat, and some spurs. Maybe he will become a resident of Texas after his playing days are over. #26 for the Islanders is this week’s recipient of the NHL Player of the Week award. Here is the copy of the e-mail I received today from the Islanders: UNIONDALE, NY (December 5, 2011) – The National Hockey League announced today that Islanders forward Matt Moulson has been named the First Star of the Week for the period ending Sunday, Dec. 4. Moulson, 28, scored six goals and added one assist [...]
