Missed it by THAT much

Thank you Maxwell Smart!

Can not blame the effort.  It was there (although – #91 is looking more and more invisible by the day… – not without effort – just off the scoresheet).  The guys are playing with purpose.  There were many instances where the guys were just one click away from a rout, but they answered the call when the Habs stepped up their play.

I was impressed with the work – they deserved a point tonight, and the play needs to continue that way when the Rangers invade the NVMC tomorrow night.  The players believe that too.

“It was such a great effort tonight,” Jeff Tambellini said to reporters following the game. “We fought so hard in a hostile barn when we were down twice. ”

Tambellini – siezing the moment – got two power play notches – both tying up the game – the latter with four minutes left on the game clock.

The winning tally, from former Isle Roman Hamrlik was a poke in from a great feed from Plekanec that just went over the outstretched Bruno Gervais.  Bruno, playing in front of friends and family, has played considerably better in the two games that he has returned from the Dog House.  I think the defense, even Brendan Witt, has played with much more zeal in the last 120 + minutes of hockey.  Just missing those extra points is all that is needed.

Plusses:  1.  Tambellini – no brainer there.

2.  Biron – after the last gaffe in Montreal (which the defense hung him to dry), he was outstanding – some saves were even season highlight efforts.  He earned his money last night.

Minuses:  1.  The elusive second point.  It will come to these guys eventually, but hard work will have them reach the promised land.

2.  First line – the opponents are figuring them out.  It is time – to make some adjustments and go for the simple – rather than try to make the big play.  The KISS method (keep it simple stupid) can be just what the doctor ordered.

Overall play (on a scale from 1 to 10) – 7.  It has a beat, but you can not dance to it. (American Bandstand reference)

Record:  1 – 4 – 5  5th place in Atlantic Division. 4 point behind Philly.

Congrats to Toronto for FINALLY winning a game… At least the Isles were not last to do that…

A day to breathe – and prepare for the Rangers, possibly with goal scoring leader Marian Gaborik.  He was hurt and left the game last night in the 3rd period.  He is a great goal scorer, but his health is always a liability.  When he is on – he is Gretzky like.  When he is hurt – he is Grandma like.

Have a hockey day, folks!
