As big of an Islander fan as I am, if anyone would have told me before yesterday’s game that the Isles would beat the Redwings 6-0, I would have thought that person to be crazy. Yes, I firmly believe that the Islanders can beat any team on any given night if they play a consistent, sound sixty minutes, but the domination and near perfection of the effort last night was amazing. Besides holding Detroit to 16 shots, they chased Jimmy Howard from the net in the second period and scored 3 more goals on former Islander, Chris Osgood.
The Isles scored 2 goals in each period, starting just over a minute in with Matt Moulson’s 17th of the season off of a feed from Mark Streit. Rob Schremp picked up his 4th and 5th goals of the season, while Streit, Okposo (his fourth goal in four games and 10th overall)and Gervais added goals. Josh Bailey contributed with 2 assists and has something like 12 points over his last 8 games. It was, by the way, Bruno’s first goal of the season and first since the end of March of last season. In fact, Bruno played probably his best game of the season, according to Scott Gordon’s comments.
Overall, the team effort was masterful, and the best game I believe they have played all season. Dwayne Roloson only faced those 16 shots, but he made the saves when needed and benefited from a truly solid effort in front of him. Simply Well Done, boys!
