If anyone would have told me that both the Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins would not be around for the Conference finals, I would have thought them insane. And, on top of that, if that same person would have told me that the Montreal Canadians would eliminate both the Caps and Pens in subsequent rounds, I’d have Really believed they needed to be committed. Yet, that is what exactly happened.
The playoffs have been extremely entertaining and exciting. The Flyers come back from being down 3 games to 0 and take a page out of the book of the 1975 New York Islanders. It has just been an amazing ride. Vancouver falling flat in their own building in game 6 and the Redwings going out in just 5 to the Sharks …. who would have thunk it all?
I must say that calling the Conference finals for winners is not an easy one for me. I think they are going to be lengthy wars going 6 or, perhaps, all 7 games in the end. To me, they can go either way. I will put my proverbial neck out and “predict” that the Blackhawks and Canadians will be meeting in the finals, but, again, I would not be surprised or embarrassed if it is San Jose and Philadelphia, Chicago and Philadelphia, or San Jose and Montreal. It’s just that tough to call in my mind.
