Nino signs on the dotted line

By Gary Harding

According to the Islanders Web Site – 18 year old Nino Niederreiter has signed a three year entry level contract with the Islanders.  His first few days in camp has turned many a head.  His maturity and size have been a major factor is his receiving of the contract.

Does that mean that he is on this team?  Not necessairily.  The odds are good  that he will get a a 9 game tryout before they could potentially send him back to Portland in the WHL.  It is a similar situation that Josh Bailey had.

Should make he ‘fight’ for spots on this lineup quite interesting as the days go by.

Real wierd that pre-season games are starting, and that the Isles do not have a game until 9/29.  They only have 5 games.  Two of them are ‘split squad’ matches, in two different cities.  It will say that the team will be together through the 4th of October, with nobody going back to junior so fast.
