NY Islanders News

Opening Night – Period 3 and beyond.

By Gary Harding

Interesting info from the stat sheet.

Konopka – 6 hits – Macdonald – leading in ice time – with almost 15 minutes.  Gillies – only 1:57.

Tavares – mild concussion – to be re-evaluated on Monday – probably will not play against the Rangers.

Weight with 5 shots  – Bailey with 3.

DP comes up bigh right away with a sliding save.  He has come up big in the first minute.

Being up in the Press Box has its benefits… I get to vote for the 3 stars of the game… Who shall I pick

Nielsen – great effort – just misses – then hits the post.  Nino – had a great opportunity as well – these Isles are flying – just need to get some breaks and find a hole in the net.

Morrow gets a gift deflection – off a bad angle – DP had no chance… 4-2 DALLAS.  Isles need to respond quickly.

Comeau from the point – one goal game again 4-3 DALLAS. Bailey with 2 helpers on the night.    Sim is being his antagonistic self, but after Dallas retaliates – he is the only one getting a penalty.

Right after Sim goes to the box, Bailey draws a penalty on Richards, so 4-4 for 1:53

Wisniewski lays out Jamie Benn with a clean hit – and Benn is seeing a lot of STARS.  Isles still putting out the pressure on Dallas – just need to get the breaks.

Robidas in the box – big opportunity for the Isles to tie it up.  The pressure and the shots have been going.  Matt Moulson ties it up at 4 with 2:39 left.  A typical goal for #26.

Isles outshooting 44-21.  This place is going nuts!

Robidas called for delay of game for the second time in as many minutes.  Can the Isles get the victory?

A lot of opportunities – but all knotted at 4 – with overtime looming.  Great job tonight – effort lackluster in period 1 – but at times DOMINATING in the last 2 periods.

Last year – the Isles lost in shootout at their home opener.  Can they get the second point tonight?

Comeau called on a real questionable interference…. PK needs to be strong right now – watch Richards and Eriksson – we know what he did to the Devils last night.

PK being physical and not giving the Stars easy chances. – PK killed – well done,.

Martinek going for a blast – just short.

Shots – 47-22 going into the shootout.

Nielsen – missed

Richards – DP stopped it

Parenteau – hit the post

Neal – tried to go 5 hole – no way!

Moulson – tried to over-deke Lehtonen – and did not get it over.

Ribeiro – Goal – deked DP out of his jock – and Dallas gets the second point.

Disappointing way for it to end – but a great game by the Isles nevertheless.
