AMac out, and a Few More Observations from Thursday Night’s Game

By John Panarese

It appears that while getting the big win on Thursday evening in Tampa, the Islanders have suffered yet another injury. Defenseman Andrew MacDonald is going to be side lined for 4 to 6 weeks with a hand injury. I am assuming this came during the stretch where the Isles killed a 2 minute, 5 on 3 power play and AMac blocked a shot with his arm or hand.

As for the game, it cannot be emphasized enough just how Well Rick DiPietro played. With each start, his goaltending improves, and Thursday night saw some Big Saves by DP. Sean Bergenheim scored on a break away in the first period, but Ricky stopped Bergie during a second chance he got in the second period breaking in all alone. DP also shut the door more than a few other times throughout the game, making 28 of 30 saves in the game overall.

A bit under the radar, but at the moment, with his goal on Thursday, PA Parenteau leads the club in points with 2 goals, 5 assists and 7 points in 7 games. Yet another of those off season signings that don’t get all the press, but Garth Snow manages to make. Parenteau could very well turn out to be a big steal should he continue to play well, and compliment the development of Josh Bailey and Blake Comeau, and be an addition to Michael Grabner’s capabilities.

Well, on to Sunrise and the Panthers tonight. Let’s hope the Isles can continue their streak and win one on my birthday.
