A Loss in Montreal on Wednesday, but Another Chance Against the Habs Tonight

By John Panarese

The Isles lost another close one on Wednesday to the Montreal Canadians in Montreal 5-3, but they will have a chance for a little “revenge” tonight at the NVMC. Goals from James Wisniewski, John Tavares (both on the power play), and Doug Weight, were not enough to win the game. To their credit, the Isles came back to make the game a 1 goal affair three different times before Montreal got an empty netter to seal the victory with about a minute and a half left in the game.

Unfortunately, too many mistakes were made and the Canadians took advantage of most of them. To me, Dwayne Roloson played well enough to win, as the puck seemed to be turned over too many times. According to Scott Gordon, the coaching staff actually counted a dozen blunders in the game, which the faster Canadian team turned around to gain good scoring opportunities. The Canadians got too many quality chances, which is something the Islanders will have to change tonight in order to win.

Just as a side note, though it has been mentioned here a few times, but how good is the trade for James Wisniewski looking for the Isles? With the injury to Mark Streit, the team needed someone to step into the QB role on the power play. Wisniewski has delivered with 11 points this season to be among the leaders in offense for defenseman in the NHL, and 9 of those points have come on the power play. Add to that his solid, physical play on the back line and I think Garth Snow can chalk up yet another “steal” he was able to pull off.

From reports, Bruno Gervais will be seeing his first action this season, but it will be as a forward. Additionally, Trent Hunter is supposed to return to the lineup, which means that one of the forwards will be sitting tonight. Rob Schremp has gone to Bridgeport for a conditioning stint, so, hopefully, we will be seeing him come back soon.
