I just read that the New york Islanders picked up Evgeni Nabokov from wavers. Wen Nathan Lawson left the game last night, this possibility had been mentioned by Butch Goring and Howie Rose, but I was personally skeptical. However, this apparently is the case, and Nabokov is supposedly going to report to the Islanders.
Considering that they will only have to pay him $250000, this turns out to be a pretty good deal for the Isles. Despite Nabokov being 35 years old, with Rick DiPietro’s status and health most likely going to be a weekly situation, it will help to have a good, veteran goaltender backing up DP. According to Chris Botta of Islanders Point Blank, the Islanders cannot use Nabokov as a part of any major trade, so he will most likely be with the club until the end of the season. Provided Ricky stays healthy, this will also give the Isles a chance to let Kevin Poulin develop in Bridgeport as well.
