Isles Blow the Lead in the Third to the Caps, and Rob Schremp Is Gone

By John Panarese

A 2-1 lead going into the third period wasn’t enough for the Islanders.  Unfortunately, the Capitals got two quick goals to beat the Isles 3-2 at the Nassau Coliseum.

I was, unfortunately, not able to catch most of the game.  I heard the goals by Kyle Okposo and Travis Hamonic, but I missed the entire third period.  Defensive break downs resulted in the two third period goals, and Al Montoya was not, perhaps, as sensational as he has been.  Also, well, Alexander Semen just seems to kill the Isles every game.

So, it is on to Washington for the back end of the home and home.  Rob Schremp has been claimed off wavers by the Atlanta Thrashers, so his Islander career is apparently over.

With no other news of trades involving the Islanders at the time I am writing this, to me, it will continue to be a matter of seeing what this young team can do down the stretch.  Without a doubt, 1 point out of their last potential 6 is not going to help what slim playoff chances they might have.  Still, there are 19 games to go, and the plan should be to try to win as many games out of that lot as possible.
