Opening Night, a game that Islanders fans have been craving since Game 6 of the 2012-13 Eastern Conference Quarterfinals came and went with a thrilling Islanders win in a shootout via a goal by Matt Moulson in the sixth round.
Strong play by Michael Grabner, who scored twice last night, and Evgeni Nabokov, who made 25 saves on 28 shots propelled the Islanders to their first Opening Night victory since a 6-4 victory in 2007 against the Buffalo Sabres.
Today, the Islanders come back to home ice in a matinee against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Fellow Eyes writer Andy Graziano will attend the game representing Eyes on Isles, while many of the staff members will be attending the game as fans.
The Islanders are finally back, and an impressive win last night has established the prominence of this team. Can’t wait to get to the Coliseum tonight.
