As we move from the old and into the new, ringing in the new year, there are some pretty interesting hockey games on the NHL TV schedule this week.

The Christmas break is behind us, the trade market is open for business and the Chicago Blackhawks feature predominantly.

The defending Stanley Cup champions will take on the Los Angeles Kings on the national stage on Monday, followed by the Winter Classic Wednesday between the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs before Joel Quenneville brings Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane to Long Island for a meeting with the Isles on Thursday.

New York has points in six of their last eight games as they try to climb out of a seriously deep hole that they had dug for themselves. After last night’s thrilling 5-4 win over the Minnesota Wild, John Tavares and company will face a much tougher task on New Year’s Eve when they travel to Boston to take on the mighty Bruins before the Hawks and Hurricanes pay a visit.

Have a safe new year and please remember to drink responsibly and give someone your keys if you are going to be out partying.
