It’s the eve of the new year and the Islanders look to wrap up 2013 on a positive note. With a huge comeback win after being down 3-0 in Minnesota, the Isles hope to carry that momentum as they head into Boston to take on the Bruins to close out 2013.

After the final horn sounds tonight, it will officially mark the halfway point in the Islanders season. Game 42 will be in the books and the Isles will look to have a much stronger second half of the season after a disappointing first half was less than impressive. A handful of injuries certainly did not help the Islanders woes, but with the offense picking back up, this could be exactly what the team needs to salvage their season.

Who gets the start in net will come out later today, but with Evgeni Nabokov continuing to shine after returning from his groin injury, it wouldn’t come as a surprise to see Nabokov in net tonight. Nabokov has faced 163 shots in 6 games, posting a .926 SV%, and a 1.97 GAA. If the offense continues scoring the way they’re not only capable of, but like they did in Minnesota, and Nabokov’s performance continues on this track, the Islanders could very well put a string of wins together and get back into the hunt in the hurting Metropolitan Division.
