The disappointing 2013-14 campaign is quickly winding down. With just 11 games remaining on the schedule, the Islanders can soon begin planning their attack at the start of the off-season.

Unfortunately, there wasn’t much for Islanders fans to be excited about during the course of the season. Plagued by injuries, various trades, and an overall lack of success has made this another season where Isles fans have hung their heads. As much as the team and fans look to put this season in their rear view mirror, there is still plenty to be excited about in the coming seasons. John Tavares‘ knee seems to be on the fast track to recovery, young stars continue to develop, and a plethora of free agents hitting the market this summer should make for interesting off-months. While a crystal ball would be needed to predict the last point, it’s likely the Islanders spend this summer and bring in the biggest missing piece of the puzzle from free agency: a goaltender.

While we can assume moves will be made this summer, it is only speculation at this point. Until then, the Isles can continue to play the upset role and crush other teams’ hopes of extending their seasons past April.
