3. The Team’s Struggles at Nassau Coliseum Once Again

Over the past few seasons, and even the one in which they made the playoffs, the Isles have struggled tremendously at home. Over the past three seasons, the Islanders have posted a 40-48-18 record at home. Strangely enough, the Islanders have been very good away from home over the past two seasons, especially when they made the playoffs in the lockout shortened 2013 season where they posted a 14-6-4 record on the road.

In order to make the playoffs, you have to be able to defend home ice and the Islanders simply have not done a good job of that. Whether it’s the lack of a large crowd, being too comfortable, or maybe breathing in the asbestos of the Coliseum for a long period of time, the Isles need to find a way to win games at home this season if they wish to make it to the dance.
