“Bye Felicia”- Colin McDonald

By Chris Dordon

Here at Eyes on Isles we have decided to eulogize a players time with the Islanders if he’s either traded or waived. The idea was sprouted by a fellow Isles blogger on Facebook. This piece will be titled “Bye Felicia”.

In today’s “Bye Felicia”, we honor Colin McDonald. Colin was placed on waivers yesterday by the Islanders, and if nobody claims him, will be sent to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Colin spent two and change seasons with the Isles, during which he was a solid contributer. He was a career AHL-er prior to 2012-13 even scoring 42 goals in 2010-11 for the Oklahoma City Barons, when Garth Snow signed him to a contract. He made an immediate impact on the fourth line with Matt Martin and Casey Cizikas. He also was part of the reason the Islanders took Pittsburgh to six games in the playoffs that year. Last season he was not as solid, nor was the entire team, as they failed to follow up their playoff run with a dismal 34-37-11 season.

Colin was a very solid teammate, starring in EA Sports’ cover vote campaign for John Tavares, and he was very good with fans, as he hosted a Wounded Warrior Project guest every game. Colin will be missed, but he did not have the talent nor grittiness to stick around on this everchanging and improving Islanders squad. In conclusion, while he will be missed off the ice, he may not be missed on it. Bye Felicia.
