It’s that time of year again. We are coming into mid-November, the weather is getting colder, homes are getting warmer, and the holiday season is underway. Routinely attending Islanders home games night in and night out, the Blue and Orange Army, the rowdy residents of the Nassau Coliseum’s Section 329, are holding their Second Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive. The drive benefits Trinity Church Soup Kitchen in Coram and St Frances de Chantal Soup Kitchen in Wantagh. This is the second annual Thanksgiving Food Drive held by the group, who last year were able to donate 5 crates of food and raised over $100 to donate to the soup kitchens as well.
The date for the Second Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive is set for the Isles-Penguins game on November 22nd, and will be held in the Coliseum parking lot next to the gate that connects the Marriott and the Coliseum. The drive will run from 1 PM to 6 PM. In addition to collecting food items, Will Teese of the Blue and Orange Army will be grilling up some food which a charitable donation of $5 will give you access to. Also, there will be a TV and Xbox set up with EA Sports NHL 14, which you can play against a friend for a $5 donation. The final piece of the puzzle is the newly minted Blue and Orange Army Street Hockey Tournament. This is a 2 v 2 street hockey event, with a $5 donation per player. Goalies will be able to play for free.
This event was a success last year, and for such a good cause, it is looking to be another success. Spread the word and help out humanity by donating and supporting the Blue and Orange Army in this selfless endeavor.
