While in Dallas on Tuesday night playing the Stars, the post trade-deadline New York Islanders escape with a point and reclaim first place in the division.
Despite a solid effort from their franchise goalie, the New York Islanders fell in defeat to the Dallas Stars tonight in Texas. The silver lining is the valuable one point they’ll escape with.
3 Stars of the Game:
- Cody Eakin (DAL) – 1 Goal, 1 Assist
- Brett Ritchie (DAL) – 1 Goal
- Jaroslav Halak (NYI) – 32 Saves
Josh Bailey got the party started 15:25 into the first period by netting his 13th of the season from phenom sensation Ryan Strome and Brock Nelson.
The score when on like that for a while with both goalies standing up to the task, especially Jaroslav Halak who made a few beauties tonight.
The Isles were skating smooth until the third period where they saw their one goal lead turn quickly into a one goal deficit.
Brett Ritchie and Vernon Fidler both scored even-strength goals within the first eight minutes of the final frame.
Suddenly, a sure two points looked to be completely gone as the Isles needed to pull Halak with under a minute to go in the game. However, just as Stome did against the Washington Capitals over a week ago, Anders Lee did tonight, in more spectacular fashion.
With 1.1 seconds remaining, Lee ripped one past Kari Lehtonen to give the Isles the point they needed to move back on top of their dreaded rivals. Despite Cody Eakin winning the game midway through overtime, Jack Capuano and company have to feel good about the outcome.
Next up for the Isles will be the Nashville Predators on the road at 8 pm ET on MSG+.
