It’s the old notion in baseball that a team’s winning streak is only as good as good as next day’s starting pitcher.
In hockey, this is why we routinely see lower seeds make deep runs into the playoffs: the starting goaltender can steal games on his own.
It took nine NHL seasons, but finally, Jaroslav Halak has found a home in New York – and the Islanders have finally found the man who’ll man the net for the next several years.
Halak has been simply phenomenal this season. An All-Star, he’s broken the franchise record in wins as he’s collected 34 thus far. Add that to a 2.48 goals against average and a sparkling .911 save percentage and Halak cannot simply be considered the “other” goalie in New York.
