As the regular season winds down, there are several potential first-round playoff matchups for the New York Islanders. How will it shake out?

With the New York Islanders 3-0 recent shutout victory over the Buffalo Sabres, it now almost mathematically clinches a playoff spot barring a total collapse.

As things stand the Islanders hold 2nd place in the Metropolitan Division but only by a point over the Washington Capitals with the Pittsburgh Penguins close behind so even with three games remaining it is possible for the Islanders to either claim home ice, finish 3rd or even fall to a wild card spot. So, this means that there are still a varied amount of teams the Islanders could face in round one.

As the regular season dwindles down, our nervous energy ramps up.

Sure, it would be good to know who’ll be the Isles first-round opponent as soon as possible, but as we know, this is the NHL and nothing comes easy.
