New York Rangers

Lastly but certainly not least we have the New York Rangers who seem unstoppable at the moment as they look to win the Presidents Trophy. There is no doubt that a play off match up between the two New York teams would be one of the marquee match ups of the post season, especially in the final season at the Coliseum and the ageing of Henrik Lundqvist.

Likelihood of first round match up: Least of all, providing the Rangers finish top of the Conference the Islanders would have to fall to the 8th seed and that would require the Islanders getting only one or two points and then finishing below Washington, Pittsburgh and two of Detroit/Boston/Ottawa, in other words the first time we could really get our shot at the Rangers is in the second round

Prediction: Despite the Rangers strolling through the second half of the season the Islanders are still one of the only teams that match up well with them. It took one of the worst periods of Islanders hockey for the Rangers to scrape a win in one game and then a fluke deflected goal for another one while the Islanders reeled off three dominating wins, two of which at MSG. However in the post season everything goes out of the window and this would be a special series.
