Islanders hit the road in search of the two points needed to jump to 2nd place in the Metro Division

The New York Islanders (24-15-6) are heading up to Ottawa to take on the Senators (22-19-6).  The Islanders are coming off of a short break and should be well rested heading into this game.  Conversely the Senators are coming home from a 6-3 loss in New Jersey to the Devils in which they gave up 5 goals in the 1st period.

The Islanders are hoping to get a win so they can leap frog the New York Rangers in the Metropolitan Division standings once again.  With the Capitals pulling away in the Metro, the second seed looks like it is the realistic goal for Islanders fans.  Home ice would be great to secure in the first round considering the Isles lost an away game 7 last year.

Travis Hamonic will be back in the lineup tonight and I’m excited to see what he brings to the table in his return.  He is going to bolster the banged up defense that has performed well recently despite missing top defense man Johnny Boychuk.  Jaroslav Halak will be in net tonight.

After this short break, the Islanders will be playing 3 games in 4 days.  After tonight against Ottawa the Isles will be returning home to face two more Eastern Conference foes.  Tomorrow the Flyers will be coming into Barclays followed by the Red Wings on Monday.

The constant leap frog game the Isles are playing with the Rangers is getting tiresome. Hopefully they can head into the All Star Break hot and create some distance in the standings.
