Steve Bernier

Cap hit: $0.75 / Age: 31 / Points: 6

Unlike the previous two on the list, there isn’t much appetite for Steve Bernier in the free agent market. And it’s understandable why. Over 24 games with the Islanders Bernier has a total of 6 points.

More from Free Agency

The New York Islanders signed Bernier as a free agent at the start of the season. He came to Islanders after a 32 point season in New Jersey. But after a year playing for the Isles Snow is likely to let Bernier test free agency once again.

Bernier had a paltry iCorsi/60 of 9.60 this season. iCorsi/60 is meant to measure how a player drive possession while controlling for ice-time and games played. But compare that to Tavares’ 14.69 and you start to see how bad Bernier was not only at scoring but driving possession for his team.

It’s not just that Bernier only scored a single goal and added another five assist. It’s that on a whole he wasn’t adding anything to his team.

Much like Nielsen, Bernier is on the wrong side of 30. And as such his current expiring, albeit cap friendly $750,000 average salary won’t be enough to tempt Garth Snow at another year.
