New York Islanders Daily Links: Frans May Get his Deal

A brief tour of New York Islanders news from around the web. What do you need to know as an Islanders fan, brought to you daily first thing in the morning!
The big news for the day is the thought that GM Garth Snow and Frans Nielsen‘s representatives will meet soon to discuss a contract.
The story comes from Newsday in their first part of a two-part series on how the forward corps will look like by the time the 2016-17 season gets rolling. It’s a lead that’s buried a little far down in the article, but The Fourth Period does a nice job of dragging it out.
The 32-year-old center was the New York Islanders reliable second-line center for most of the regular season. With 52 points on the season, he was a big part of a small core of offensive talent, including the likes of Jonathan Tavares and Kyle Okposo (also a pending UFA).
With his an average cap hit of $2.75 million set to expire, Nielsen is looking to get a nice increase for what may likely be his final long-term contract. The trick for Snow will be to get the Nielsen signed to a deal that respects the Danes worth while also not locking the Islanders to a deal that has the potential to nose dive in a few years.
