A brief tour of New York Islanders news from around the web. What do you need to know as an Islanders fan, brought to you daily first thing in the morning!

There’s good news down the prospect pipeline for the New York Islanders. The KHL, you know that other major hockey league just had it end of season awards ceremony the other night. And Isles draft pick Ilya Sorokin won goalie of the year.

It’s no small feat. The young Russian played 28 games for CSKA Moscow this season and had a 1.06 GAA and 0.953 SV%, which are outstanding numbers. Although to be fair, 28 games is just under half of the 60 game KHL season.

But still, 1.06 GAA is a remarkable achievement. The KHL averages 5.28 goals per games, up about 30% from last year according to dropthegloves.com. It’s not to say that this average would in-any-way translate to the NHL. But it does show the 20-year-ols qualities.

In January of this year, Championat.com spoke to the New York Islanders draft pick and asked him if he would attend training camp next season. Sorokin gave the standard professional answer that his mind is firmly with his current team, but that if the opportunity arose he would consider it.

Adding Sorokin to the already crowded crease in Brooklyn adds a layer of complexity in who starts, who’s the backup and what do we do with the other three netminders on the roster. But with both the KHL and NHL seasons over, at least for the Isles, GM Garth Snow has time to sort out the goaltender situation brewing.
