A brief tour of New York Islanders news from around the web. What do you need to know as an Islanders fan, brought to you daily first thing in the morning!

The New York Islanders released their 2016-17 pre-season scheduled just yesterday, and it’s a great set of games against divisional rivals.

The Isles will faceoff against the Philadelphia Flyers, New Jersey Devils, Washington Capitals and crosstown rivals the New York Rangers.

The first matchup against the Rangers will be a split squad on the 27th of September, but on October 7th, we welcome the Rangers to the Barclay’s center for a full squad match-up.

It’s the first time that these two rivals meet in the pre-season since 2007, a game that Brett Cyrgalis of the New York posts says: “got very little accomplished in terms of the intention of preseason games.”

The NHLs mantra recently is: “rivalries”. It’s introduced rivalry night and it’s aligned the playoff structure to create more rivalries. Starting not only the season with a rivalry matchup but having one included in the pre-season shows how committed it is to this scheme.
