New York Islanders Daily Links: UFAs Out

A tour of New York Islanders news from around the web. What do you need to know as an Islanders fan, brought to you daily first thing in the morning!
It might be tough to hear but it sounds like New York Islanders forwards Kyle Okposo and Matt Martin might be out the door come the free agent deadline.
Both are pending unrestricted free agents, and both have, according to sources from Newsday’s Arthur Staple: “[…]there have been no talks between either player’s agent and the Isles since the season ended.”
We ran a story just yesterday where we made the case to sign Matt Martin. He’s the perfect fourth-line player for the system and style of play coach Jack Capuano wants his checking line to play. Martin is the leader in hits in each of the last two seasons by some distance.
Keeping him on board would certainly cost more. His last contract had an average cap hit of $1 million. A new deal with a worth of $2 to $2.75 million would not be out of the question.
Most Isles fans have come to terms with the fact that Okposo will be leaving. The career New York Islander is out of a deal, and will likely command a price that GM Garth Snow is simply not willing to pay. Losing both Okposo and Martin would be a shock to most fans.
