New York Islanders Daily Links: Everybody Gets a Contract

A tour of New York Islanders news from around the web. What do you need to know as an Islanders fan, brought to you daily first thing in the morning!
Yesterday’s big New York Islanders news was the signing of forward Casey Cizikas to a five-year $16.75 million deal. Twitter went abuzz with the news as everyone and anyone weighed in on the impact of this deal.
But flying under the radar of this deal was a number of smaller deals. Six of them to be precise. That’s right the Islanders signed a total of seven players yesterday. All of them, however, were AHL supporting cast players.
SNY.tv reports that the Islanders signed: Ben Holmstrom, Justin Florek, James Wright, Joe Whitney, Justin Vaive and Bracken Kearns, who signed with the club the previous day.
All six have a total of 195 NHL games experience, with James Wright accounting for 75% of that experience with his time in both Winnipeg and Tampa Bay.
These signings didn’t make their rounds in the media because all six signed two-way deals with the club. These players aren’t going to be first team players, but rather depth players that will make their homes in Bridgeport and be called up should there be a need.
