At number eleven the New Jersey Devils select Alexander Nylander. The Devils couldn’t be happier. They certainly weren’t expecting to have a chance at landing Nylander, but here we are. It’s the perfect fit for the team from Jersey.

More from NY Islanders News

The Devils desperately needed someone to have as their centerpiece, outside of Cory Schneider. They need that attacking focal point that has been missing since Ilya Kovalchuk left for the KHL and since Patrik Elias’ 2000-01 season.

The Boston Bruins another defensive prospect in the first-round in the hopes that they can improve that blue line when Zdeno Chara eventually leaves or retires.

In 2015 the Bruins selected Jakob Zboril of the Saint John Sea Dogs with the 13th overall pick of the draft, the first of three consecutive selections.Unlike Chara, McAvoy is no giant, but he is certainly capable, scoring 25 points in 33 games for Boston University.

He’s the type of defenseman teams are building around. Offensive-minded defensemen who have a touch of a risk-taking element to their game and that possess the skill set to get away with it. It’s a skill set not many have, but that most desire.

The Minnesota Wild take Nylander’s teammate Micheal McLeod at number 15 over hometown born and son of former NHLer Bryan Bellows, Kieffer Bellows.
