Everyone was dreaming about the possibility of Steven Stamkos coming here to play with the New York Islanders. Although those dreams were squashed when Stamkos elected to re-sign with the Lightning before even hitting free agency.

Arthur Staple writes how now it’s time for plan b. Supposedly Garth Snow was more interested than we were led on to believe. He was prepared to make a serious offer to Stamkos once the free agency period started.

Unfortunately it never got that far. Garth is left with the unpleasant task of still having to replace Frans Nielsen and Kyle Okposo. Okposo himself will probably be the most coveted free agent now with Stamkos off the market.

What made things worse yesterday was the trades going on as well. Taylor Hall who was believed to be a target for the Islanders was sent to New Jersey for Larsson. People were surprised that Garth Snow couldn’t get it done Hamonic for Hall straight up.
