Feb 21:Massive Nine-Game Road Trip

On February 21st the Islanders start a huge road trip that will span nine games and 18 days. Last season’s longest road trip was only seven games long.

This year the Isles will make stops in: Detroit, Montréal, Columbus, Dallas, Chicago, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, and St-Louis. In total, it’s a 9,927-mile trek across the continent.

The Islanders road record was 20-16-5, not as good as their home record, but still a winning record. On their seven-game road trip last season the isles went 6-1-0 outscoring opponents 21-14.

The importance here is where this road trip happens during the season. From February 21st to March 11th the Isles are on the road. A bad road trip could have dire consequences on their playoff hopes. Getting the ball rolling with a win over the Red Wings on the 21st will make sure momentum is on their side.

Of course, these are just our thoughts on what are some of the most important games. But as the season opens storylines will start constructing themselves. Some of the games we’ve omitted could very well be much more important than we originally thought come October.
